Family gift exchange

A family Christmas gift exchange everyone can join

One draw for the whole family: parents, cousins, grandparents and kids. Everyone shares a wishlist, nobody knows who drew them, and Christmas ends with a tree to keep.

Made for big, busy families

Kids and grandparents are included

An adult can create a profile and wishlist for someone without a phone. Children under 13 never get their own account.

Couples and siblings stay apart

Set exclusions so partners or siblings do not draw each other.

One price cap for fairness

Pick a limit for each gift. Wishlist items above it cannot be saved.

Works in English and Spanish

Each person chooses their language. The family can mix both.

The keepsake

The family tree, one ornament per person

After the reveal, your exchange becomes a Christmas tree. Each person's photo hangs as an ornament with their name. Tap an ornament to see who gave them a gift, what it was, the clues and the thank-you note.

Every Christmas adds a new tree, so you can flip back through the years and watch the family grow.

  • A history of who gave what

Christmas Eve fun

Guess Who at the table

Gather around one screen, or have everyone use their phone. Each person reads clues about the person they drew and the family guesses. Then comes the reveal.

Clue 3 of 4

This person loves to cook.

They wear glasses.

Their favorite color is green.

Their name starts with L.

How it works for the family

  1. Create and share

The organizer makes the exchange and sends the link to the family group chat.

  2. Add wishlists

Everyone adds 3 to 5 ideas under the cap. Adults help kids and grandparents.

  3. Draw my person

Each person taps to see who they are buying for. Nobody can see who drew them.

  4. Celebrate

Play Guess Who, reveal, and hang the ornaments on the tree.

Family questions

Can kids or grandparents without phones take part?

Yes. A parent or another adult in the group can add them as a managed member. The adult fills in their photo, clues and wishlist for them and sees who they are buying for, the same way a parent helps a child at a paper draw. People under 13 never have their own account. They only appear as a profile created and controlled by an adult.

To keep the secret fair, a managed member is never assigned to give a gift to the adult who manages them, and each adult can manage up to three people.

Can couples be kept from drawing each other?

Yes. The organizer can set exclusions before the draw: couples, siblings, or anyone who should not draw someone else. The draw respects every exclusion. If a set of exclusions makes a valid draw impossible, Happy Giving tells the organizer which one to relax.

Why do you need at least 4 people?

With 3 people, every possible draw is a single loop, so once you know who you are buying for you can work out who is buying for you. With 2 people it is obvious. With 4 or more, a draw can have several possibilities, so nobody can be certain who drew them.

What if someone joins late or drops out?

Before the draw, the organizer can add or remove members freely. After the draw, adding someone means drawing again so the secret holds, and the app tells the organizer before it does anything. Only the organizer can redraw, and only before the gift date.
